Secret in Their Eyes
Short description
A tight-knit group of FBI investigators and the district attorney who supervises their work is shattered when the teenage daughter of one of their own is found murdered. The case stalls when the suspect they believe responsible is released for lack of evidence, and the team drifts apart. Thirteen years later, Ray, still haunted by the killing of his colleague Jess's daughter and by his unresolved feelings for their supervisor, Claire, picks up a new lead that could finally close the case. Reopening it forces the former partners back together and raises the question of how far someone will go to undo a wrong.
Billy Ray directed and co-wrote the film, his third feature after Shattered Glass and Breach, working from the screenplay he adapted with Juan José Campanella and Eduardo Sacheri from the Argentine film El secreto de sus ojos. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Ray, Nicole Kidman plays Claire and Julia Roberts plays Jess, with Dean Norris, Alfred Molina and Michael Kelly in supporting roles.
Released in October 2015, the film cost about 20 million USD and took roughly 35 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.3/10 from around 55,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.4/10 from about 1,500 votes. A critics' score of 5.3/10 across 148 reviews places it below the audience ratings.

- The film company 'Warner Bros. Pictures' began work on the film in 2010. In 2011, the role was offered to Denzel Washington. Filming was scheduled to begin in October of the same year, with Atlanta chosen as the filming location. Suddenly, 'Warner Bros. Pictures' backed down, and the project was shelved for several years. Eventually, it attracted the interest of the independent company 'IM Global.' Casting began in early 2014, and filming started in January 2015. By the time the film was released, director Billy Ray had celebrated his five-year anniversary with the project.
