Short description
Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials continues the story of Thomas and the other Gladers after their escape from the maze. They are now searching for answers about WCKD, the powerful organization behind the trials they endured. Their search leads them out into the Scorch, a ruined and sun-scorched world, where they must survive both the hostile environment and the people driven to madness by a spreading disease. Teaming up with resistance fighters, the group takes on a far stronger enemy and learns more about WCKD's plans for them.
Wes Ball directed the film, his second feature and the second entry in the series he built from James Dashner's novels, following The Maze Runner and preceding The Death Cure. T.S. Nowlin wrote the screenplay, and Dylan O'Brien leads the cast as Thomas, alongside Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee, Dexter Darden and Giancarlo Esposito. It runs 131 minutes.
Released in 2015, the film had a budget of 61 million USD and took in 312 million USD worldwide, a strong return on its cost. Audiences rate it 6.3/10 on IMDb from around 305,000 votes and 6.7/10 on TMDB from about 11,250 votes, while the critics' rating stands lower, at 5.4/10 from 153 reviews.
