Smokin' Aces 2: Assassins' Ball follows Walter Weed, an unremarkable FBI office worker whose life changes when the Bureau learns of a plot to kill him. A mysterious figure named Hal Leuco has offered a large reward to a group of unstable hired killers, among them a woman with an unusual method of murder, a master of disguise and a psychopath armed with power tools. Agent Baker is assigned to keep Weed safe, and the Tremor family, familiar from the earlier film, join the hunt as well.
The film is a prequel to Smokin' Aces and was directed by P.J. Pesce, who wrote the screenplay with Tom Abrams and Olatunde Osunsanmi. It was Pesce's fifth feature as director, following The Desperate Trail, From Dusk Till Dawn 3: The Hangman's Daughter, Sniper 3 and Lost Boys: The Tribe. Tom Berenger plays Weed, with Clayne Crawford as Agent Baker, Tommy Flanagan as Lazlo Soot, Maury Sterling as Lester Tremor, Martha Higareda as Ariella Martinez and Christopher Michael Holley as Malcolm Little. It was produced by Mike Elliott for Working Title Films, Capital Arts Entertainment, Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Always Split Aces Productions.
Released in January 2010, the film runs 86 minutes and was made for 8 million dollars, receiving a limited theatrical run before going to home video. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.3 out of 10 from 311 votes.
