Set in the hill country around Munnar, Iyobinte Pusthakam follows Iyob, a man who rises from bondage to a position of power. The story unfolds across generations of a family whose fortunes are tied to the tea estates of the region, and the arrival of outsiders and new loyalties turns inheritance into conflict. Drama, history and thriller elements are woven through the household's struggles over who will control what has been built.
The film was released in November 2014 and runs 159 minutes. Amal Neerad directed it from a screenplay by Shyam Pushkaran and Gopan Chidambaran, and it was produced by Amal Neerad, Fahadh Faasil and Nazriya Nazim under their banners. It sits third among the four features Neerad has directed, between 5 Sundarikal and Bougainvillea. Lal plays Iyob, with Fahadh Faasil as Aloshy, Jayasurya as Angoor Rawther, Vinayakan as Chemban, Jinu Joseph as Ivan and Chemban Vinod Jose as Dmitri among a credited cast of 28.
On TMDB the film holds a rating of 7.7 out of 10 from 40 votes, a small sample indicating a modest but dedicated viewership rather than wide consensus.
