Short description

Based on a video game, this animated action horror film follows Dante, a warrior who descends into the depths of Hell to rescue his love, Beatrice. After discovering that Beatrice's soul was taken by Lucifer due to a lost bet regarding Dante's faithfulness, the protagonist journeys through nine circles of torment. Guided by the soul of Virgil, Dante battles various demons and monsters to reach the ninth circle and reclaim Beatrice from the master of the underworld.

The movie was co-directed by several filmmakers, including Victor Cook, for whom this was the fourth film in a career that later included several Scooby-Doo projects. Other directors include Yasuomi Umetsu, who previously directed Kite and Kite Liberator; Mike Disa, for whom this was a directorial debut; Jong-Sik Nam; Lee Seung-Gyu; Shuko Murase; and Sangjin Kim. The voice cast features Graham McTavish as Dante, Vanessa Branch as Beatrice, Peter Jessop as Virgil, and Steve Blum as Lucifer, with Mark Hamill also appearing as Alighiero.

Produced by companies across the United States, Korea, Singapore, and Japan, the film has a runtime of 88 minutes. It has received generally positive feedback from audiences, holding a 6.5 rating on IMDb from 11,000 votes and a 7 rating on TMDB from 585 votes.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The animated film is based on the video game Dante's Inferno (2010, Visceral Games), which in turn is based on the first part, "Inferno," of Dante Alighieri's poem "The Divine Comedy".
