Wild Horses is a crime drama set in Texas, where Ranger Samantha Payne reopens a missing person case that has gone unsolved for fifteen years. The evidence she gathers points toward a ranch owned by Scott Briggs, a wealthy family man, and suggests the missing boy was killed there. When Scott's estranged son Ben returns home unexpectedly during the investigation, Payne becomes more certain that the Briggs family is hiding something and presses on despite the danger to herself.
The film was directed by Robert Duvall, who also wrote the screenplay, and it is the third feature he directed, following The Apostle (1997) and Assassination Tango (2003). Duvall plays Scott Briggs, with James Franco as his son Ben, Josh Hartnett as KC Briggs, Adriana Barraza as Mrs. Davis, Jim Parrack as Deputy Rogers, and Luciana Pedraza as Ranger Samantha Payne. It was produced by Michael Mendelsohn and Rob Carliner, runs 100 minutes, and was released in June 2015.
Audience response has been limited: on IMDb it holds 4.8 out of 10 from around 4,200 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 4.8 from roughly 106 votes. A critics' rating of 4.2 from 12 reviews places it slightly below those audience figures.
