Short description

Kiran has just finished her studies and returns home to her brother, sister-in-law and her fiancé, Sunil, a fearless naval officer who loves her deeply. What neither of them realises is that a third person has been watching Kiran for years: Rahul, the son of Sunil's commanding officer, whose fixation on her has grown into a dangerous obsession. Kiran finds herself caught between the love she has chosen and the obsession that frightens her, and Sunil, who has never feared death, finds himself facing an enemy he cannot fight in the ordinary way. The film is a Hindi-language action romance thriller made by Yash Raj Films and released in September 1993.

It was directed by Yash Chopra from a screenplay by Honey Irani, with Chopra also producing, and it follows Silsila (1981) in his filmography, later preceding Veer-Zaara (2004) and Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012). Sunny Deol plays Sunil, Juhi Chawla plays Kiran, and Shah Rukh Khan plays Rahul, with Anupam Kher, Dalip Tahil and Tanvi Azmi in supporting roles. On TMDB it holds a 6.9 rating from 91 votes, a modest score from a small voter base.

What's left behind the scenes

  • In 1993, Sunny Deol was more famous and popular than Shah Rukh Khan, and director Yash Chopra offered him a choice between two roles—Sunil and Rahul. Deol chose the role of Sunil, believing it would provide an additional boost to his career, but he was mistaken. Shah Rukh Khan's performance as Rahul received significantly more positive responses from audiences and critics than Deol's performance as Sunil.
  • At first, Shah Rukh Khan refused the offered role, believing it to be that of a villain. He was persuaded otherwise by director Yash Chopra and screenwriters Javed Siddiqui and Honey Irani, and upon the film's release, the role made Khan famous and popular.
