To Steal from a Thief

A crew of professional thieves led by a man known as "El Uruguayo" descends on a bank in Valencia on a rainy morning, disguised as armed men. The plan is to clear out as many safe deposit boxes as possible and escape through a tunnel dug from one of the bank's offices into an abandoned subway line. Heavy, constant rain floods the planned exit, and the operation comes apart. Outside, security forces surround the building, while inside, suspicion grows between the gang's two leaders. It gradually becomes clear that the boxes hold something more than money, and that the people who commissioned the job may not have told the robbers everything.

The film is a crime thriller directed by Daniel Calparsoro, working from a screenplay by Jorge Guerricaechevarría. It stands between his 1997 debut, Blinded, and later titles such as The Warning, Twin Murders: The Silence of the White City and Sky High. Luis Tosar plays Gallego and Rodrigo de la Serna plays Uruguayo, with Raúl Arévalo as Ferrán, Jose Coronado as Mellizo, Patricia Vico as Sandra and Joaquín Furriel as Loco. Produced across Argentina, Spain, the United States and France on a budget of about 6 million dollars, it took roughly 9 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.2 out of 10 from around 7,700 votes, and on TMDB 6.3 out of 10 from some 396 votes.
