The Dark Tower

The Dark Tower follows Roland Deschain, the last of the gunslingers, who is locked in an enduring conflict with Walter O'Dim, also called the Man in Black. Roland must stop him from bringing down the Dark Tower, the structure that holds all worlds together. His path crosses that of Jake Chambers, a boy from New York who is troubled by visions of another world and whose abilities are sought by the Man in Black. The film is an adaptation of Stephen King's novel series and moves the gunslinger's search into the present day.

Nikolaj Arcel directed, working from a screenplay he wrote with Anders Thomas Jensen and Akiva Goldsman. It was Arcel's second English-language feature, arriving between A Royal Affair and The Promised Land. Idris Elba plays Roland and Matthew McConaughey plays Walter O'Dim, with Tom Taylor as Jake. Claudia Kim, Fran Kranz and Abbey Lee appear in supporting roles. The production cost 60 million USD and returned 113 million USD worldwide.

The response was mixed. On IMDb it holds 5.6/10 from 155,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.8/10 from 5,676 votes. A critics' rating of 4.2/10 from 278 reviews puts it below both audience scores, so viewers were somewhat more tolerant of the adaptation than reviewers were.
