Short description
Chuck Levine and Larry Valentine are Brooklyn firefighters and close friends. Larry, a widower, wants to secure life insurance for his two young children, but a paperwork problem stands in the way. His solution is to have Chuck sign as his domestic partner, a purely formal arrangement the two men intend to keep secret. When a suspicious official starts looking into the claim, the pair must convince everyone they are a genuine couple, and their private arrangement becomes public news. Chuck moving in with Larry and his children complicates matters further, not least because Chuck becomes interested in the lawyer handling their case.
Dennis Dugan directed the film, the eighth of fourteen he has directed in chronological order, following The Benchwarmers and preceding You Don't Mess with the Zohan. Adam Sandler plays Chuck and Kevin James plays Larry, with Jessica Biel, Dan Aykroyd, Ving Rhames and Steve Buscemi in supporting roles. The screenplay was written by Jim Taylor, Barry Fanaro and Alexander Payne, and the film was produced by Happy Madison Productions, Universal Pictures, Relativity Media and Shady Acres Entertainment.
Released in July 2007, the comedy romance runs 115 minutes and cost about 85 million dollars to make, earning roughly 187 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.9 from around 161,000 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 6.1 from some 2,600 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 3.9 from 165 reviews, well below the audience scores.
