The Priests follows a Catholic priest, Father Kim, who becomes convinced that a teenage girl named Young-shin is possessed by a demonic spirit after she is struck by a car and begins suffering strange ailments. To carry out an exorcism, he needs a deacon to assist him, but previous helpers have fled after taking part in the rite. He turns to a seminarian, Deacon Choi, who is haunted by what happened to his sister years earlier. The two must confront the case together while the deacon faces his own fears.
The film is the directorial debut of Jang Jae-hyun, who also wrote the screenplay, and it came before his later features Svaha: The Sixth Finger and Exhuma. Kim Yoon-seok plays Father Kim, Gang Dong-won plays Deacon Choi, and Park So-dam plays Young-shin, with Kim Eui-sung, Son Jong-hak and Lee Ho-jae among the supporting cast across 27 credited roles. Released in November 2015 in Korea, it runs 103 minutes and blends horror, mystery and thriller elements, produced by CJ Entertainment, Zip Cinema and Opus Pictures. It took about 37 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.3 from roughly 2,900 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.9 from a much smaller pool of 141 votes, so the two audiences differ somewhat in their response.
