Picnic

Three patients from a psychiatric hospital, Coco, Tsumuji, and Satoru, believe that the world is scheduled to end on a specific day. To witness the apocalypse, they travel across the tops of city walls in search of a picnic location that offers the best possible view of the final moments of existence.

Directed and written by Shunji Iwai, this Japanese adventure fantasy was released in 1996. It is the fourth of 16 films directed by Iwai, following Swallowtail Butterfly and preceding April Story. The movie features Chara as Coco, Tadanobu Asano as Tsumuji, and Koichi Hashizume as Satoru, with supporting roles played by Naomasa Musaka, Fujiko Yamamoto, and Shifumi Yamaguchi. The production was handled by Fuji Television Network and Pony Canyon.
