Dylan Dog: Dead of Night follows a private investigator who specializes in cases involving the supernatural. Having left his old life behind, he has moved from London to New Orleans, where vampires, werewolves and other creatures live secretly alongside ordinary people. He is drawn back into the work when a young woman, Elizabeth, asks him to look into the death of her father, which she believes was caused by a monster. His investigation unfolds against a city where tensions between the various communities threaten to break into open conflict.
The film was directed by Kevin Munroe, released in 2011 as the second of the four features he directed, between TMNT and Ratchet & Clank. Brandon Routh plays Dylan Dog, with Anita Briem as Elizabeth; Peter Stormare, Sam Huntington, Taye Diggs and Kurt Angle round out the cast. The screenplay was written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, and the production was mounted on a budget of about 20 million dollars.
Its commercial performance was modest: the worldwide box office came to roughly 5 million dollars against that budget. Audience response has also been muted. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.1 out of 10 from around 16,000 votes, while on TMDB the rating is 4.8 out of 10 from roughly 543 votes. Both figures point to a mixed reception among viewers rather than a broad endorsement.
