Rubber

Quentin Dupieux wrote and directed Rubber, an 82-minute genre-blending film released in 2010. Set in the California desert, it follows Robert, an old discarded tire that comes to life and discovers it can kill at a distance through telekinesis. As it rolls through the landscape, it develops an obsession with a young woman while a group of onlookers gathers to watch the events unfold.

The cast includes Stephen Spinella as Chad, Roxane Mesquida as Sheila, Thomas F. Duffy as Xavier, David Bowe as M. Hughes, Jack Plotnick as Accountant and Wings Hauser as Man in Wheelchair, among 23 credited performers. The film was produced by Gregory Bernard and Julien Berlan for Realitism Films, with backing from Canal+, ARTE France Cinéma and Backup Media, a French-American co-production.

Rubber is the second of 16 films directed by Dupieux, following Steak in 2007 and preceding Wrong in 2012. Reception has been modest across the board: on IMDb it holds 5.7/10 from around 43,000 votes, on TMDB 5.9/10 from just over 1,150 votes, and its critics' rating stands at 5.9/10 from 88 reviews, so critics and general audiences have judged it similarly.
