Ittefaq is a crime mystery thriller centred on a double murder that appears to have only two witnesses, both of whom are also the leading suspects. One is Vikram Sethi, a celebrated writer; the other is Maya Sinha, a young homemaker. Each offers an account of the night in question that sounds credible, yet the two versions cannot both be true. Police officer Dev Sharma takes charge of the investigation, weighing the conflicting stories and trying to work out who is telling the truth and who the real killer is.
The film was directed by Abhay Chopra, who wrote the screenplay with Shreyas Jain. It was produced by Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar and Gauri Khan, and stars Sidharth Malhotra as Vikram, Sonakshi Sinha as Maya and Akshaye Khanna as Dev, with supporting turns from Pavail Gulati, Mandira Bedi and Himanshu Kohli. Made on a budget of about 4 million dollars, it took roughly 8 million dollars worldwide, a return that made it a commercial success.
On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.8 out of 10 from around 120 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 5.8 out of 10 from 11 reviews, so audiences have responded somewhat more warmly than critics. Running 107 minutes, the film was released in November 2017.
