Short description
Ten years after a massacre in Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp, Andrew Yong remains the only survivor. His account of what happened, blaming the local legend Victor Crowley for the killings, has been widely disputed and dismissed over the past decade. His story attracts attention rather than belief, and he returns to the swamp for a publicity stunt with a television crew in tow. A twist of fate brings Crowley back, and Andrew is confronted once more with the killer from his past.
Victor Crowley is a comedy-horror film directed and written by Adam Green, the fourth title in the series he began with Hatchet in 2006 and continued with Hatchet II in 2010. Kane Hodder plays the title role, with Parry Shen as Andrew, Laura Ortiz as Rose, Dave Sheridan as Dillon, Katie Booth as Chloe and Krystal Joy Brown as Sabrina, among 23 credited cast members.
Made by ArieScope Pictures, the film runs 83 minutes and was released in September 2017. Audiences received it moderately: on IMDb it holds 5.5 out of 10 from around 8,100 votes, and on TMDB 5.7 out of 10 from roughly 288 votes. A smaller group of critics rated it 6.7 out of 10 across 15 reviews.
What's left behind the scenes
- Following the film's European premiere in London at the annual FrightFest festival on August 26, 2017, the audience gave it a standing ovation. 'Victor Crowley' became only the second film in the festival's 18-year history to receive such an honor.
- In all the films of the 'Hatchet' franchise (2006, 2010, and 2013), Victor Crowley's voice is a blend of the voices of actor and stuntman Kane Hodder and director Adam Green. Sounds made by sea lions, bears, and lions were sometimes added as well.
- This is Kane Hodder's fourth portrayal of Victor Crowley. He also played Jason Voorhees four times in the 'Friday the 13th/Jason' franchise.
- Scenes from the bookstore where Kristina exposes her breasts and Linus exposes his genitals were removed from the digital versions of the film. Director Adam Green was extremely displeased with this. These scenes are present in the theatrical version of the film and on physical media (DVD and Blu-Ray).
