A group of longtime friends gather for their annual summer holiday at a seaside house near Cap Ferret, but this year the trip is overshadowed by a serious accident that has left one of them, Ludo, hospitalized in Paris. The others go ahead with the vacation anyway, settling into Max's beach home with its routines of meals, wine and outings. Over the days, long-running tensions and unspoken feelings come to the surface among the group, testing friendships and the comfortable stories they have told one another, until they can no longer avoid the things they have kept hidden.
Guillaume Canet directed and wrote the film, which followed his 2006 thriller Tell No One in his filmography. François Cluzet plays Max, Marion Cotillard plays Marie, and Benoît Magimel, Gilles Lellouche, Jean Dujardin and Valérie Bonneton are among the principal cast, with 28 credited performers in all. Alain Attal produced the film for EuropaCorp, M6 Films and Les Productions du Trésor, on a budget of about 25 million USD. It took roughly 49 million USD worldwide, a strong return on that investment for a French production of its scale.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.1 out of 10 from around 28,000 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 7.1 out of 10, from about 1,656 votes, so the two audience measures agree closely. A critics' rating of 5.7 out of 10 from 70 reviews places professional assessments clearly below the audience response. At 154 minutes, it is a long ensemble drama with comic touches, released in France in October 2010.
