I Am Mother

I Am Mother is set after a catastrophe has nearly wiped out humanity. In an underground bunker, an emergency program activates and a humanoid robot called Mother raises a child from an embryo. The girl, known as Daughter, grows up under Mother's care, trained for a mission to help repopulate the Earth, and has never seen the surface or met another person. That isolated world is disrupted when a wounded stranger arrives at the shelter, challenging what Daughter has been taught about the outside world and leaving her to decide which of the two women is telling the truth.

Grant Sputore directed the film, his first feature, from a screenplay by Michael Lloyd Green. It came before Sputore's later Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. Clara Rugaard plays Daughter, Rose Byrne voices Mother, and Hilary Swank appears as the woman who arrives at the bunker. Luke Hawker performs as Mother on set, with Tahlia Sturzaker and Maddie Lenton playing the character at younger ages.

The Australian, Luxembourg and American production was released in June 2019 and runs 113 minutes. Reception was moderately positive: the critics' rating stands at 7 out of 10 from 79 reviews, closely matching the audience scores of 6.7 out of 10 on IMDb from over 97,000 votes and 6.7 out of 10 on TMDB from nearly 3,000 votes.
