Madea's Big Happy Family

Madea's Big Happy Family centers on Shirley, whose three grown children are caught up in their own difficulties when she receives troubling news about her health. What she wants is to have her family around her, but Tammy, Kimberly and Byron are each dealing with personal crises that keep them from their mother. Madea steps in, with the loud and irreverent Aunt Bam at her side, to pull the scattered relatives together and help Shirley through the moment.

Tyler Perry directed, wrote and produced the film, the eighth of the twenty-nine features he has directed in chronological order, arriving between Why Did I Get Married Too? and Madea's Witness Protection. Perry plays Madea alongside Joe, with Loretta Devine as Shirley, Shad Moss as Byron, Cassi Davis as Aunt Bam, Shannon Kane as Kimberly and Lauren London as Renee among a credited cast of twenty-one. The film was released in April 2011 and runs 106 minutes.

Made on a budget of about 25 million US dollars, it took in roughly 53 million worldwide. Audience responses diverge sharply: on IMDb it holds 4.9 out of 10 from around 9,100 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.8 from a much smaller base. A critics' rating of 4.5 from 41 reviews places it below the IMDb audience figure.
