Win Win

Mike Flaherty is a small-town New Jersey lawyer whose practice is barely keeping his family afloat, so he takes on paid guardianship of an elderly client and earns extra money coaching a high school wrestling team that rarely wins. When the old man's teenage grandson, Kyle, runs away from his mother and turns up at his grandfather's house, Mike and his wife Jackie take the boy in. Kyle turns out to be a gifted wrestler, and his arrival gives Mike's struggling team, and the household, a new sense of direction. The situation grows complicated when Kyle's mother Cindy returns.

Tom McCarthy directed and co-wrote the film with Joe Tiboni, and it was produced by Michael London, McCarthy and Mary Jane Skalski. It was McCarthy's third feature, following his 2003 debut The Station Agent and The Visitor from 2008, and Paul Giamatti leads the cast as Mike, with Amy Ryan as Jackie, Bobby Cannavale as Mike's friend Terry, Jeffrey Tambor as Vigman, Burt Young as Leo Poplar and Melanie Lynskey as Cindy.

Made for about 11 million dollars, the film took in a similar amount worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.1 out of 10 from roughly 56,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.8 out of 10 from around 570 votes. A critics' rating of 7.9 out of 10 from 173 reviews places it above both audience scores. It runs 106 minutes.
