Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins

Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins follows a determined loner who saves the life of the heir to an old Japanese clan known as the Arashikage. In return, the clan takes him in and trains him in the ways of the ninja, giving him the sense of belonging he has long sought. When secrets from his past come to light, however, his honor and loyalty are put to the test, and he risks losing the trust of the people who have become closest to him. The film serves as an origin story for the character within the G.I. Joe series, with Henry Golding in the title role and Andrew Koji as Tommy, also known as Storm Shadow. Haruka Abe, Úrsula Corberó, Samara Weaving and Takehiro Hira appear in supporting parts.

Robert Schwentke directed the film, which sits between The Captain and Seneca in his directing career, and the screenplay was written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel. It was produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Brian Goldner and Erik Howsam for Paramount, Skydance, di Bonaventura Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Made for a budget of 88 million dollars, the film took in about 37 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.4 from roughly 48,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.4 from about 1,773 votes. The film critics' rating is 4.9 from 147 reviews, lower than both audience scores.
