Short description
Kick-Ass 2 continues the story of Dave Lizewski, an ordinary teenager who had taken up a mask and costume as the self-styled hero Kick-Ass. His example has inspired a wave of amateur crimefighters, among them a group organised by the former criminal Colonel Stars and Stripes, and Dave joins their patrols. At the same time his partner Mindy Macready, known as Hit-Girl, is made to give up her vigilante life and try to live as a normal schoolgirl, leaving Dave to carry on without her. Meanwhile Chris D'Amico, the one-time Red Mist, reinvents himself as The Motherfucker and gathers his own crew of villains, aiming to settle scores with the pair. The film is a sequel to Kick-Ass and adapts the comic by Mark Millar.
Jeff Wadlow directed and wrote the screenplay, his third feature after Cry_Wolf and Never Back Down; Brad Pitt, Matthew Vaughn and Adam Bohling produced. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloë Grace Moretz return as Dave and Mindy, with Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Chris, Jim Carrey as the Colonel and Iain Glen as Uncle Ralph. The production cost about 28 million USD and returned roughly 61 million USD worldwide. Audience response was moderate: on IMDb it sits at 6.5/10 from 300,000 votes, and on TMDB at 6.4/10 from 6,721 votes. A critics' rating of 4.9/10 from 211 reviews places it below those viewer scores.
What's left behind the scenes
- The statue of a child in an army helmet with a grenade in his hand, located in the villain's lair, is the work of British artist Schoony and is called "Boy Soldier".
- Aaron Taylor-Johnson gained 15 pounds of muscle for the role.
- Mother Russia rips the car door off and uses it as a shield, then throws it at a police officer, but there are no bullet holes on it anymore.
- In the comics, Colonel Stars and Stripes is depicted as two brothers: Colonel Stars and Lieutenant Stripes.
- When Kick-Ass first enters the headquarters of the "Justice Forever" organization, a jar of peanut butter is visible on a shelf. After a close-up of Kick-Ass, the jar disappears.
- After filming, Jim Carrey changed his attitude towards the film due to the high level of violence depicted in it. He wrote on Twitter: "I did 'Kick-Ass' a month before Sandy Hook and now, with hindsight, I can't support that level of violence. I'm not ashamed of the film, but in light of recent events, I've changed my mind."
- When the villains are at their base, Chris has two guns on his costume. This weaponry subsequently disappears.
- In one of the film's lines, Chloë Grace Moretz says a phrase in Russian ("You couldn't handle it when you were being screwed from all sides"), which is subtitled as "I would've thought a cunt like you could handle all those pricks."

- When Mother Russia destroys the police cars, she places a lawnmower on the trunk of one, then reverses into another car with it, and starts the lawnmower, sending it through the windshield.
