Grace, her stepsister Meg and her friend Emma have saved up for a trip to Paris, but the visit falls short of what they hoped for. While killing time in the lobby of a luxury hotel, Grace is mistaken for Cordelia Winthrop Scott, a wealthy young British heiress she happens to resemble. Before the mix-up can be cleared up, the three are swept into the heiress's world of private planes, designer clothes and paparazzi, and their holiday moves to Monte Carlo.
Thomas Bezucha directed and co-wrote the film with Maria Maggenti and April Blair. It followed his 2005 debut, The Family Stone, and preceded Let Him Go, his third feature as director. Selena Gomez plays both Grace and Cordelia, with Katie Cassidy and Leighton Meester as her travelling companions; Cory Monteith, Andie MacDowell and Brett Cullen also appear. Arnon Milchan, Denise Di Novi and Nicole Kidman are among the producers.
Released in 2011, the film runs 109 minutes and mixes adventure, comedy and romance. Made for about 20 million dollars, it took in roughly twice that amount worldwide, a solid return. Audiences were more forgiving than critics: it holds a 5.8 rating on IMDb from some 52,000 votes and a 6.8 on TMDB from a much smaller base, while the critics' score stands at 4.8 from 90 reviews.
