This Means War

This Means War is an action comedy about two CIA operatives, FDR Foster and Tuck, who have been close friends since childhood and work as a team. Both begin dating the same woman, Lauren, a market researcher who has had little luck in love, and neither man is willing to step aside. Once they realize the coincidence, the friendship turns into a fierce contest in which the surveillance equipment, tactics and weaponry at their disposal are turned on each other as much as on the job. A case involving the criminal Heinrich, who slipped past them during an operation in Hong Kong, continues in the background.

The film was released in February 2012 and runs 98 minutes. It was directed by McG, arriving between Terminator Salvation and 3 Days to Kill in a filmography that also includes the two Charlie's Angels pictures, We Are Marshall and later titles such as The Babysitter and Uglies. Simon Kinberg and Timothy Dowling wrote the screenplay, and Will Smith, Kinberg and Robert Simonds produced. Reese Witherspoon plays Lauren, with Chris Pine as FDR, Tom Hardy as Tuck and Til Schweiger as Heinrich among a credited cast of 70 and crew of 64.

Against a budget of 65 million dollars, the film took about 157 million dollars worldwide. Audience responses were moderate and close to each other, with IMDb voters giving it 6.3 out of 10 and TMDB users 6.2 out of 10. A critics' rating of 4.5 out of 10 from 180 reviews places professional opinion noticeably below those audience scores.
