Our Idiot Brother

Our Idiot Brother is a comedy about Ned Rochlin, an idealistic and relentlessly trusting man whose openness to the world around him lands him in trouble. After a run-in with a police officer during a drug sale, Ned is jailed, and once released he finds that his girlfriend has ended their relationship, shut him out of their organic farm and kept his dog. With nowhere to stay, he turns to his mother and then to his three sisters, moving in with each of them in turn.

Miranda is focused on her career, Natalie is hiding her true self from her closest friend, and Liz is so preoccupied with being a good mother that she overlooks problems in her marriage. Ned's arrival stirs up each household, unsettling the arrangements his sisters have built, though his honesty and good intentions also prove useful in ways they did not expect.

Paul Rudd leads the cast as Ned, with Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel and Emily Mortimer as his sisters, alongside Steve Coogan and Rashida Jones. Jesse Peretz directed, working from a screenplay by David Schisgall and Evgenia Peretz; the film sits between his earlier The Ex and his later Juliet, Naked. Made for about 5 million dollars, it took roughly 26 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 92,000 votes, on TMDB 6.1 from over a thousand, and critics' reviews average 6.4.
