Killing Them Softly

An underground poker game run by mob figures is robbed by two small-time criminals, and the fallout threatens the criminal economy of the city. The mob brings in Jackie Cogan, an enforcer who works as a contractor, to track down those responsible and settle accounts. His task is complicated by hesitant clients, petty swindlers, weary hitmen and the men who set up the job in the first place, until keeping the situation under control becomes difficult.

Andrew Dominik wrote and directed the film, his third feature, following Chopper and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and preceding Blonde. Brad Pitt, who also produced, heads a cast that includes Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta and Richard Jenkins. The film is based on the novel Cogan's Trade by George V. Higgins.

Made for about 15 million dollars, the film took roughly 38 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.2 out of 10 from around 160,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6 out of 10 from about 2,500 votes. A critics' rating of 6.9 out of 10 from 227 reviews places it above the audience scores.
