27 Dresses

Jane Nichols has stood beside 27 brides as a bridesmaid, always organizing and helping while never becoming a bride herself. She is in love with her boss, George, but before she can tell him, her younger sister Tess arrives and quickly wins his attention. When Tess asks Jane to plan her wedding to George, Jane faces a conflict between her loyalty to her sister and her own feelings. A newspaper reporter, Kevin Doyle, notices Jane's unusual devotion to weddings and sees a story in her.

The film was directed by Anne Fletcher, following her debut Step Up and preceding The Proposal, The Guilt Trip, Hot Pursuit, Dumplin' and Hocus Pocus 2. Aline Brosh McKenna wrote the screenplay. Katherine Heigl plays Jane, with James Marsden as Kevin, Malin Åkerman as Tess, Judy Greer as Casey, Edward Burns as George and Melora Hardin as Maureen. It runs 111 minutes.

Released in January 2008, the romantic comedy cost about 30 million dollars and earned roughly 160 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.1 from about 187,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.5 from around 3,500 votes. A critics' rating of 5.3 from 154 reviews places it below both audience scores, a modest reception for a broadly seen studio comedy.
