Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story follows a fictional American musician from a hard childhood through decades of fame, changing tastes and self-destruction. After a family tragedy, Dewey Cox leaves home and rises to stardom, weathering shifts in popular music while battling drug addiction and fits of rage. His first marriage, to Edith, falls apart, and he finds love with backing singer Darlene Madison, though his own behavior threatens both his career and that relationship. The film is a musical comedy that sends up the conventions of the musician biopic.

Jake Kasdan directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Judd Apatow, who also produced; it is the third of the nine features Kasdan has directed, arriving between Orange County and Bad Teacher. John C. Reilly plays Dewey, with Jenna Fischer as Darlene, Kristen Wiig as Edith, Raymond J. Barry as Pa Cox, Tim Meadows as Sam and Harold Ramis as L'Chaim. The production cost about 35 million USD and took roughly 21 million USD worldwide, so it did not recover its budget at the box office.
