One Missed Call
Short description
One Missed Call follows Beth Raymond, a young woman whose friends begin receiving voicemail messages from their future selves. Each recording contains the date, time and some detail of how the recipient will die, and each death occurs as predicted. When Beth receives a message of her own, she has roughly three days to understand what is happening. Most of the police dismiss her account, but detective Jack Andrews, whose sister was among the victims, believes her. Together they trace the calls back to a nurse and her two daughters, and to events in the family's past that appear to lie behind the deaths.
The film is a horror, mystery and thriller directed by Eric Valette, working from a screenplay by Andrew Klavan, and it was released in January 2008. It is the second feature Valette directed, following Maléfique in 2003 and preceding The Prey and Super Hybrid in 2011. Shannyn Sossamon plays Beth, with Edward Burns as Andrews; Ana Claudia Talancón, Ray Wise, Azura Skye and Johnny Lewis appear in supporting roles. Produced across Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and Japan, it cost about 20 million dollars and took roughly 46 million dollars worldwide, a modest return.
Reception was poor. On IMDb it holds 4.1 out of 10 from around 35,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.4 out of 10 from 816 votes. A critics' rating of 2.6 out of 10 from 79 reviews puts professional response below even the low audience scores.

- The film was shot in Atlanta, Georgia, specifically at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
- Jason Horgan was initially considered for the role of Ray Parvis, but the director felt he was too young, so Jason Beh took on the role, while Horgan was cast as Dr. Ken Brown.
- Guillermo del Toro was originally intended to direct the film, but he preferred to work on "Hellboy 2: The Golden Army".
- During the film's preparation, director Eric Valette deliberately avoided watching the original Japanese version and asked his actors to do the same.
- The film is based on the novel of the same name by Japanese writer Yasushi Akimoto and is a remake of the Japanese film "Chakushin Ari" (2003).
- According to screenwriter Andrew Klavan, while working on the script, he expected the film to be shot as a comedic satire of horror movies where characters die one by one. However, Andrew states that director Eric Valette and the young lead actors wanted to make a serious horror film. In this conflict of ideas, the producers sided with the director and the actors.
