The Last Godfather follows Young-gu, the son of mafia boss Don Carini. Young-gu is considered too foolish to join the upper ranks of the organization, so his father brings him in anyway and has Tony V train him as the eventual successor. Young-gu then happens to rescue Nancy, the only daughter of Don Bonfante, who heads a rival crime family. Vinnie, an under-boss in the Bonfante family, abducts her himself and spreads the story that Young-gu is the one who took her. His actions push the two families toward an armed conflict.
Shim Hyung-rae directed the film, his second feature after Dragon Wars: D-War in 2007, and co-wrote the screenplay with Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow. Shim also stars as Young-gu, with Harvey Keitel as Don Carini, Michael Rispoli as Tony V, Jason Mewes as Vinnie, Jocelin Donahue as Nancy Bonfante and Blake Clark as Captain O'Brian. It is a Korean production from CJ Entertainment and Younggu-Art Movies, made for 13 million USD.
Released in December 2010, the film is a comedy with crime and romance elements, running 100 minutes. It took in 17 million USD worldwide, a modest return against its budget. On TMDB it holds a rating of 4 out of 10 from 20 votes, a small sample reflecting limited engagement from that audience.
