Terrible Jungle

Set in French Guyana, this adventure comedy follows Eliott, a naive anthropology researcher who travels to the Amazon rainforest to study the Otopis tribe. The journey serves as a means to escape his controlling mother, Chantal de Bellabre, an ethnologist known for her cold and biased professional methods. Upon arrival, Eliott discovers that the tribe members are violent and dishonest, contrary to the idealized image he held of them. Driven by worry and remorse, Chantal abandons her own work to search for her son, accompanied by the inept Lieutenant-Commander Raspailles and his soldiers.

The film was co-directed by Hugo Benamozig and David Caviglioli, who also co-wrote the screenplay. This was the first collaboration between the two directors, who later worked together on Sentinelle in 2023. The cast features Vincent Dedienne as Eliott, Catherine Deneuve as Chantal de Bellabre, Alice Belaïdi, and Jonathan Cohen as Raspaillès.

Produced in Belgium, France, and Switzerland, the movie earned 2 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception was mixed, with a rating of 5.4/10 from 932 votes on IMDb and a score of 5.2/10 based on 195 votes on TMDB.
