Short description
A former elite agent rescues a young Chinese girl who has been abducted. Because the girl possesses a unique memory and holds a secret code to a valuable safe, she becomes the target of a violent pursuit through New York City. The protector and the child must survive a conflict involving the Russian Mafia, the Triads, and corrupt city officials and police officers.
Directed and written by Boaz Yakin, this action thriller is the fourth film in his directing career, following Fresh, Remember the Titans, and Uptown Girls. The movie stars Jason Statham, alongside Chris Sarandon, James Hong, Catherine Chan, Robert John Burke, and Anson Mount. It was a joint production between companies in the United States and India, including Lionsgate and Reliance Entertainment.
The film had a budget of 30 million USD and earned 40 million USD at the worldwide box office. It holds a 6.5/10 rating on IMDb based on 124,000 votes and a matching 6.5/10 on TMDB from 2,766 votes. These audience scores are higher than the 5.7/10 rating provided by film critics.
What's left behind the scenes
- The scenes in the mayor’s mansion were filmed at Bloomfield Estate in Villanova, Pennsylvania. On April 4th (less than a month before the film’s release), the garage of the building caught fire. The fire spread and practically destroyed the entire third floor of the main house.
- You can see the dead man in the homeless shelter breathing.
- Footage of the Dekalb Ave and Canal St subway stations was filmed at the Cortlandt St station.
- The scene exiting the subway was filmed at the intersection of East Broadway and Rutger St.
- When Luke takes out his iPhone in the taxi, the time at the top of the screen is 7:55 pm. In the next shot, it abruptly changes to 7:57.
