The Last Stand

Arnold Schwarzenegger plays Sheriff Ray Owens, a former Los Angeles police officer who left the force after an operation went badly wrong and now keeps order in the small town of Sommerton Junction, near the Mexican border. His quiet routine ends when Gabriel Cortez, a drug kingpin, breaks out of an FBI transport and races toward the border with a hostage, his gang and heavily armed mercenaries. Sommerton Junction sits directly in his path, making it the last place where authorities can stop him before he crosses into Mexico. Owens initially hesitates to get involved, but when his town is threatened he joins the effort alongside a small group of local volunteers and inexperienced deputies.

The film is the English-language debut of South Korean director Kim Jee-woon, released in 2013 and following Doomsday Book in his filmography. It was written by Andrew Knauer, Jeffrey Nachmanoff and George Nolfi, produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and made for a budget of 30 million dollars. The cast includes Johnny Knoxville, Jaimie Alexander, Zach Gilford, Kristen Rakes and Christiana Leucas, with 45 credited cast members and 74 credited crew.

Audience scores are moderate, with IMDb users giving it 6.3 out of 10 across roughly 150,000 votes and TMDB users 6.1 out of 10. A critics' rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 168 reviews places professional assessments close to the audience response.
