What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, Natalie Portman was considered for the leading female role, but she later dropped out of the project. Rooney Mara also auditioned for the role before Mila Kunis.
- Joseph Gordon-Levitt was considered for a role in this film.
- Ondra Zelar was considered for a role in this film.
- This is the first film by Lilly and Lana Wachowski in 3D format.
- During filming, the crew assembled a six-camera rig (Panocam) which was mounted on a helicopter. The angle covered by the rig was almost 180 degrees, which allowed overlapping footage to be combined in post-production to create the illusion that the camera was moving independently of the helicopter's actual path.
- During preparation for filming, Channing Tatum had to wear a special mouthguard to alter the shape of his lower jaw. This device prevented him from closing his mouth and caused difficulties when he needed to speak.
- The film was initially scheduled for release on June 20, 2014, but the studio decided to postpone the premiere to February 2015 to allow more time for the post-production process.
- According to the directors, the film's script is over 600 pages long.
- At the 40-minute mark, Vlad is playing the game Dark Souls 2.
- This is the first film by Lilly and Lana Wachowski to be rated "PG-13".
