A Life Less Ordinary

A Life Less Ordinary follows Robert Lewis, a Scottish immigrant working as a janitor who dreams of writing a novel. When he loses his job, he kidnaps Celine Naville, the spoiled daughter of his wealthy former employer, and takes her on a road trip across the United States. What begins as a bungled crime turns into something more complicated, as the two mismatched people are forced together. Watching from above, two angels named O'Reilly and Jackson are sent to Earth with a mission involving human connections: to see whether love can take hold between Robert and Celine. Their efforts to push the pair together run into complications.

Danny Boyle directed the film, his third feature in a career of seventeen, arriving between Trainspotting and The Beach. John Hodge wrote the screenplay, and Andrew Macdonald produced. Ewan McGregor plays Robert opposite Cameron Diaz as Celine, with Holly Hunter and Delroy Lindo as the angels and Ian Holm as Celine's father.

Made for 12 million dollars, the film took in roughly 15 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from 38,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.2 from 514 votes. A critics' rating of 5.7 from 37 reviews places it below both audience scores.
