Sandra manages a fast food restaurant in suburban Ohio, and her day is already difficult: a freezer left open the night before has cost the business money, and customers are unhappy. When a man claiming to be a police officer calls and says one of her employees has stolen money from a customer, she accepts his account and follows his instructions. The employee, Becky, is kept at the restaurant and searched, while the man on the phone directs what should happen next. The situation escalates well beyond a simple accusation.

Craig Zobel wrote and directed this drama, his first feature, followed by Z for Zachariah and The Hunt. Ann Dowd plays Sandra and Dreama Walker plays Becky, with Pat Healy as the caller, Bill Camp as Van, Philip Ettinger as Kevin and James McCaffrey as Detective Neals.
