Your Sister's Sister follows Jack, a man still reeling from the death of his brother, who accepts an offer from his close friend Iris to spend time alone at her family's remote island cabin in the Pacific Northwest. When he arrives, he finds the place already occupied by Iris's sister Hannah, who has her own reasons for seeking solitude. A night of heavy drinking leads Jack and Hannah into bed together, and the unexpected arrival of Iris the next morning sets off a stretch of days in which the three friends confront feelings they had kept hidden.
Lynn Shelton directed and wrote the film, which was released in 2011 and runs 90 minutes. It is the earlier of the two features listed among her directing credits, preceding Laggies. Emily Blunt plays Iris, Rosemarie DeWitt plays Hannah and Mark Duplass plays Jack, with Mike Birbiglia and Michael Harring also appearing in a credited cast of 28. Steven Schardt produced through Ada Films.
The film took about 3 million dollars worldwide, a modest figure that reflects its small-scale production and limited theatrical reach rather than broad commercial success. Critics rated it 7 out of 10 across 143 reviews, a warmer response than its audience scores of 6.7 on IMDb from around 29,000 votes and 6.5 on TMDB from roughly 376 votes. The gap suggests reviewers responded more strongly to the film than general viewers did.
