Men in Hope

Rudolf, a charmer in his sixties, has long believed that a marriage stays lively only when the woman has to work to keep her man, and that boredom is the real danger. His son-in-law Ondrej takes the opposite approach, dutiful and attentive, without noticing that his wife Alice has grown restless. Convinced he is acting for his daughter's sake, Rudolf offers Ondrej advice on reviving the relationship, and the younger man soon finds himself involved with the attractive Šarlota. The arrangement brings Ondrej new attention at home and outside it, along with complications no one planned for.

Jiří Vejdělek directed and wrote this Czech comedy, which was released in August 2011 and runs 115 minutes. It was his first feature as director in the chronological list of his work, followed years later by Ruce v záruce, Aristocrat in the Boil and Když lumpa trápí pumpa. Tomáš Hoffman produced, and the cast is led by Bolek Polívka as Rudolf and Jiří Macháček as Ondrej, with Petra Hřebíčková, Simona Stašová, Vica Kerekes and Lukáš Langmajer.

Made for about 1 million USD, the film took roughly 7 million USD worldwide, a strong return in relation to its cost. On TMDB it holds a 7.3/10 rating from 191 votes, indicating a modest but clearly positive response.
