Love Lasts Three Years
Short description
Marc Marronnier is a Parisian literary critic by day and a nightlife columnist after dark, married to Anne until she ends the marriage after roughly three years. Convinced that love simply cannot outlast that span, he takes his cynicism and disappointment and turns them into a biting book arguing that lasting romance is an illusion. The manuscript finds a publisher and attracts attention, but his convictions are tested when he meets Alice, the wife of his cousin Antoine, and falls for her.
Frédéric Beigbeder directs from his own screenplay, adapting his novel of the same name; the cast includes Gaspard Proust as Marc, Louise Bourgoin as Alice, JoeyStarr as his friend Jean-Georges, Jonathan Lambert, Frédérique Bel and Nicolas Bedos. The film is a French and Belgian co-production made with EuropaCorp, Canal+, France 2 Cinéma and SCOPE Pictures, and it runs 98 minutes. Released in late 2011, it took in about seven million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from roughly 5,200 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.7 from about 435 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film is based on the novel of the same name by Frédéric Beigbeder, which was published in France in 1997. The book contained a number of autobiographical elements, which many years later prompted the author to agree to personally work on its adaptation.
- Initially, it wasn't about Frédéric Beigbeder adapting his own novel. The rights to the book were purchased back in 2006, producers came and went, and the project didn't move forward. Eventually, producers Alain Kruger and Michael Gentile made an offer to the author, and after much hesitation, he agreed.
- The opening credits and several night scenes were filmed using a Canon EOS 5D camera. Inexpensive and very easy to use, this camera was used in the filming of such French films as 'Prowler' (2011) and 'Declaration of War' (2011).
