Fool's Gold

Fool's Gold follows Ben "Finn" Finnegan, a treasure hunter who has spent years chasing a legendary Spanish shipwreck and its cargo, the Queen's Dowry, lost in the Caribbean in 1715. His obsession has cost him his marriage to Tess and left him deeply in debt. When he finally finds a clue to the treasure's location, he talks his way aboard the yacht of billionaire Nigel Honeycutt, where Tess now works, and persuades Honeycutt and his daughter Gemma to fund and join the hunt. Finn is not alone in the pursuit: his former mentor, now a rival, has been hired by a gangster named Bigg Bunny, who wants the gold for himself.

The film was directed by Andy Tennant, who wrote the screenplay with John Claflin and Daniel Zelman. It is Tennant's seventh feature, arriving after Hitch and before The Bounty Hunter, continuing his run of romantic comedies. Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, who had previously worked together, lead a cast that includes Donald Sutherland, Alexis Dziena, Ewen Bremner and Ray Winstone. The production, shot across Australia, the Bahamas and the United States, carried a budget of 70 million dollars and returned 111 million worldwide.
