Riddick

Betrayed by his own people and left for dead on a sun-scorched, seemingly lifeless planet, the fugitive Riddick has to fight for survival against hostile alien creatures. His only chance of escape is to set off an emergency beacon that draws mercenaries and bounty hunters from across the galaxy to the planet, though the crews arriving are more interested in his head than in a rescue. Among them are killers who have old scores to settle with him.

The film was directed and written by David Twohy, who had introduced the character in Pitch Black and continued the story in The Chronicles of Riddick. It is his seventh feature, arriving after A Perfect Getaway. Vin Diesel plays Riddick and also produced alongside Ted Field and Samantha Vincent, with supporting turns from Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Mollà, Dave Bautista and Nolan Gerard Funk.

Shot on a budget of 38 million dollars, the film earned close to 98 million dollars worldwide, a solid return for an action picture in this series. Audience responses were moderate and broadly similar across platforms: on IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 186,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.3 out of 10 from roughly 4,500 votes. A critics' score of 5.4 out of 10, drawn from 172 reviews, sits below those figures, so professional reviewers were less enthusiastic than the viewing public.
