Short description
The story of the love affair between FDR and his distant cousin Margaret Stuckley, centered around the weekend in 1939 when the King and Queen of the United Kingdom visited upstate New York.
What's left behind the scenes
- The Navy musicians who play during dinner are dressed as officers, although the Navy band actually consists of sailors serving their mandatory term. The conductor of the orchestra must be an officer or a warrant officer, rather than a musician.
- The dinner shown in the film took place on June 10, 1939. The film depicts a full moon that night, but in reality, only a half moon was visible.
- The third major film featuring the character of King George VI (Bertie) released in recent years. In 'The King's Speech' (2010), he was played by Colin Firth; in 'We Believe in Love' (2011) by Laurence Fox; and here by Samuel West.
- The car Roosevelt drives with special hand controls is a 1936 Ford Phaeton, which is on display at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, New York.
- The film is based on the personal diaries of Margaret Sackley, discovered after her death.
