Baby Mama

Kate Holbrook is a single, successful businesswoman who has long put her career ahead of everything else. At 37, she decides she wants a child, only to learn that her chances of becoming pregnant are very slim. She turns to a surrogacy agency and arranges for Angie Ostrowiski, a working-class woman from South Philadelphia, to carry the baby. The two women could hardly be more different, and their clashing habits and expectations turn the arrangement into a contest of temperaments.

Baby Mama is a 2008 American comedy directed and written by Michael McCullers, marking his first feature as director. It stars Tina Fey as Kate and Amy Poehler as Angie, with Greg Kinnear, Dax Shepard, Romany Malco and Sigourney Weaver among a credited cast of 38. John Goldwyn and Lorne Michaels produced, and Universal Pictures handled the release.

Made for about 30 million dollars, the film took roughly 64 million dollars worldwide, a solid return on its budget. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from around 49,000 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from some 720 votes. A critics' score of 6.3 out of 10 from 162 reviews places it slightly above the audience ratings, suggesting reviewers were marginally warmer toward it than viewers were.
