99 Francs

Set in Paris in 2001, 99 Francs follows Octave Parango, a young creative at the Ross & Witchcraft advertising agency. His life is consumed by cynicism, excess and a self-destructive streak, with money, women and cocaine as constant companions. Two things unsettle him: a relationship with Sophie, a striking colleague at the agency, and a meeting with a large dairy company about a campaign for a new yogurt. As he works on the project, Octave begins to question what his job actually means and how he treats the people around him, and he turns against the industry that made him by sabotaging his own campaign.

The film was directed by Jan Kounen, whose earlier features were Capitaine X, Dobermann and Blueberry; he went on to make My Cousin and The Shrinking Man. The screenplay is by Nicolas Charlet and Bruno Lavaine, and Alain Goldman produced. Jean Dujardin plays Octave, with Jocelyn Quivrin, Patrick Mille, Vahina Giocante, Elisa Tovati and Nicolas Marié among the credited cast of 43.

Released in France on 26 September 2007, the film runs 104 minutes and was made for about 13 million dollars, a figure it matched at the worldwide box office. On IMDb it holds 7.1/10 from roughly 22,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.7/10 from 832 votes, indicating a fairly consistent response across both audiences.
