Short description
Four teenage friends in 1970s Ohio are devoted to hard rock and, above all, to Kiss. When the band schedules a concert in nearby Detroit, the four see it as the high point of their lives, and Jam obtains tickets for all of them. His religious mother disapproves and destroys the tickets, packing him off to a strict boarding school as well. From there the friends set out to reach the sold-out show, splitting up along the way and running into their own troubles: a stolen car, clashes with disco fans, confrontations over their beliefs, and parents determined to stop them. The film is set in and around Cleveland in 1978 and features members of Kiss appearing as themselves.
Adam Rifkin directed the comedy, which followed The Chase and Welcome to Hollywood in his filmography; Carl V. Dupré wrote the screenplay, and Kiss bassist Gene Simmons was among the producers. The cast includes Edward Furlong, Sam Huntington, Giuseppe Andrews, James DeBello, Lin Shaye and Melanie Lynskey, with 87 credited performers and 97 credited crew. Made for 34 million dollars, it returned about 4 million worldwide.
Released in August 1999, the film holds a 6.8 rating on IMDb from 43,000 votes and a matching 6.8 on TMDB from 469 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 5.2 from 41 reviews, so audiences have rated it more warmly than critics did.
