Broken City

Billy Taggart, a former New York police officer, now works as a private detective after being forced off the force. He is hired by the city's mayor, Nicholas Hostetler, to find out whether his wife Cathleen is having an affair. Taggart confirms her infidelity, but when the man involved is found dead, the case expands into something far larger. Digging further, he uncovers connections between the mayor, real estate dealings and the world of crime, and finds himself caught in a network of scandal and manipulation that reaches the highest levels of city power.

Broken City was directed by Allen Hughes, his sixth feature after Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, From Hell, New York, I Love You and The Book of Eli. Brian Tucker wrote the screenplay, and Mark Wahlberg, who also produced alongside Arnon Milchan and Hughes, plays Taggart. Russell Crowe appears as Hostetler, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Cathleen, with Jeffrey Wright, Barry Pepper and Alona Tal in supporting roles. The production involved 37 credited cast members and 184 credited crew.

Made for 56 million US dollars, the film returned about 35 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.1 out of 10 from over 82,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6 out of 10 from roughly 1,600 votes. A critics' rating of 4.6 out of 10 from 155 reviews places it below the audience scores.
