What's left behind the scenes
- The series was filmed in La Belle, New Mexico. The plot unfolds at the end of the 19th century.
- The horse used by Jeff Daniels' character is the same one used by Jeff Bridges' character in 'True Grit' (2010).
- The town of La Belle (also known as LaBelle) was an actual town located in Taos County, New Mexico, USA, at the beginning of the 20th century.
- Skoot Mcناءry and Whitney Able, who plays Bill McNarey's late wife, are married in real life. They previously starred together in the film 'Monsters' (2010), having started dating six months before filming began.
- The Mountain Meadows Massacre took place in 1857. If the events of the series occur in the 1880s, then Frank Griffin should be around 30 years old.
- Jessica Sula and Jack O'Connell appeared in 'Skins' (2007-2013) in seasons 5 and 6, and seasons 3, 4, and 7, respectively.
- Roy Goode (Jack O'Connell) does not speak in the pilot episode ('Incident at Creed') until the 34th minute.
- Skoot McNery and Michelle Dockery previously starred together in the movie 'Air Marshal'.
- Sheriff John Cook, played by Sam Waterston, demands vintage American whiskey (aged 4-5 years) in every bar. The series is set in the 1880s, but the whiskey certification law was not passed in the US until 1897.
