The Comebacks

The Comebacks is a 2007 sports comedy about Lambeau Fields, a coach whose long career has been defined by failure across several sports. A friend, Freddie Wiseman, offers him a chance to take charge of a college football program in Texas, and Lambeau moves there to work with a roster of players who have little going for them athletically. His goal is to turn the group into a competitive team, while also trying to repair his relationships with his wife and the people close to him. The film, directed by Tom Brady, follows his 2002 debut The Hot Chick as the second of the three features he has directed. David Koechner plays Lambeau, with Carl Weathers as Freddie, Melora Hardin as Barb Fields, Matthew Lawrence as Lance Truman, Brooke Nevin as Michelle Fields and Nick Searcy as Mr. Truman. Peter Abrams, Robert L. Levy and Andrew Panay produced the film for 20th Century Fox and Fox Atomic, with 32 credited cast members and 41 credited crew members. Made for 15 million USD, it took in 14 million USD worldwide. Audiences have been unenthusiastic: on IMDb it holds 4.3/10 from around 12,000 votes, and on TMDB it sits at 4.8/10 from 169 votes. A critics' rating of 3.1/10 from 31 reviews places it below even those modest audience scores.
