Deception

Jonathan McQuarry is a corporate auditor who moves between offices and has little in his life beyond work. A chance encounter with Wyatt Bose, a confident and well-connected lawyer, draws him into a secretive club known as The List, where members arrange encounters with women using only an initial as a name. Jonathan becomes involved with a woman called S, and the arrangement quickly turns dangerous, pulling him into a situation involving missing money, violent death and a fraud he does not fully understand. Wyatt, it becomes clear, is not the friend he appeared to be.

Deception was directed by Marcel Langenegger from a screenplay by Mark Bomback, and it was produced in part by Hugh Jackman, who stars opposite Ewan McGregor. Michelle Williams plays S, with Natasha Henstridge, Charlotte Rampling and Bruce Altman among the supporting cast. The film was released in 2008 and runs 107 minutes. It was made for about 25 million dollars and took roughly 18 million dollars worldwide, so it did not recover its budget at the box office. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from around 42,000 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from roughly 750 votes. A critics' rating of 4 out of 10 across 98 reviews puts it noticeably below the audience scores.
