No Good Deed

Terri is a wife and mother of two living in a comfortable home in an Atlanta suburb. Her routine is interrupted when a stranger named Colin appears at her door, saying his car has broken down and asking to use her phone. She lets him in, only to find that he has escaped from prison and means her family harm. What begins as a small act of kindness turns into a struggle to survive inside her own house.

Sam Miller directed the film, which followed his 1999 debut Elephant Juice and came well before Danny Boy in 2021. Aimee Lagos wrote the screenplay, and Will Packer and Lee Clay produced it through Will Packer Productions. Idris Elba plays Colin, with Taraji P. Henson as Terri and supporting turns from Leslie Bibb, Kate del Castillo, Henry Simmons and Mirage Moonschein. The production cost about 13 million dollars and took roughly 54 million dollars worldwide, a strong return for a thriller of its size.

Made for a modest budget and running 84 minutes, the film drew mixed responses. On IMDb it holds 5.6 from about 24,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.9 from a much smaller pool of users. A critics' rating of 3.3 from 56 reviews sits well below both audience scores, meaning viewers were more forgiving of it than reviewers were.
